Description of Works
SERS were commissioned to undertake a Detailed Site Investigation at a former Caltex Service Station located in Lesmurdie.
Following an investigation by a different consultant, the site remained classified Possibly contaminated – Investigation required. SERS was brought onto the project assess the previous investigation and undertake any works necessary to provide the regulators with a robust environmental assessment of the site.
During the investigation SERS uncovered a major hydrocarbon plume beneath the site which had not previously been identified. SERS have been working closely with the client to provide guidance on how to manage this contamination in order for the site to be used for residential development.
In addition, SERS have been aiding the client during a civil case with the previous tenants regarding potential losses associated with the historic use of the property.
Outcome
The client and the regulator now have a clear understanding of the environmental status of the site and are now in a position to make sound financial and environmentally-sustainable decisions on the future use of the site. SERS is expected to commence remediation during 2013.
